Vice Chair Steve Kang

Steve Kang serves as President of the Board of Public Works for the City of Los Angeles, where he oversees a budget exceeding $1 billion and leads critical public infrastructure projects citywide. With a career deeply rooted in civic engagement and community empowerment, Steve has held impactful roles across government and nonprofit sectors.
Previously, he was Director of External Affairs at the Koreatown Youth & Community Center (KYCC), a $20 million nonprofit delivering essential services including mental health counseling, youth programs, affordable housing, financial literacy, and environmental initiatives. He also served as a District Director in the California State Assembly and as Executive Director of the Korean American Coalition–Los Angeles.
Steve’s leadership and advocacy have earned recognition from the Los Angeles County Democratic Party, the Empowerment Congress, Asian Democrats of Los Angeles County, and the Democratic Party of the San Fernando Valley.
He holds a B.A. from Columbia University and an M.Sc. from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
A proud longtime Koreatown resident, Steve is a devoted husband and father of two. Outside of public service, he is a passionate culinary explorer who delights in discovering the diverse food culture of Los Angeles.
