Harris Mojadedi was born in Fremont, California, the proud son of Afghan refugees who came to the United States in search of a better life. Harris was raised in Fremont and Union City. Today, he serves as the Assistant Dean of Strategic Initiatives at the University of California, Berkeley. In this role, Harris leads key initiatives focused on supporting first-generation students, analyzing student fee policies, and addressing campus climate issues.

Harris holds a master’s degree in Leadership Studies from Saint Mary’s College of California and a bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a concentration in Public Policy from San Jose State University.

A dedicated public servant and community leader, Harris has spent over a decade engaged in advocacy and leadership in Alameda County. Harris serves on the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District Board of Trustees, representing Area 3—which includes Union City and South Hayward. He is a past Chair of both the Union City Planning Commission and the Alameda County Human Relations Commission.

Harris is a committed AANPHI (Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander) organizer. He served as the Education & Advocacy Co-Chair for UC Berkeley’s Asian Pacific American Systemwide Alliance, and as Treasurer for the California Community College League’s Asian American & Pacific Islander Trustee and Administrator Caucus. Harris has served as a lead organizer committed to resettling refugees from Afghanistan. Harris’ unwavering dedication to equity, education, and community empowerment continues to guide his work every day.
