Hon. Andrew Yam

Andrew Yam, MPP is a dedicated and experienced policy professional bringing a number of years in professional and community roles with the goal of supporting and uplifting communities. He has experience in numerous policy areas including: poverty-alleviation programs (Guaranteed Basic Income), housing, and the healthcare system (addressing medical debt). Previously Andrew has worked in other community facing and policy development roles through various political campaigns, elected officials, nonprofit organizations, and government entities.
Andrew Yam is also a longtime community volunteer with deep experience in an elected position and appointed positions throughout his City, County and State. Andrew was elected in November 2022 and currently serves as Vice President of the Board of Education at the Garvey School District. Andrew was also appointed to the Monterey Park Library Commission in 2017 as the youngest City Commissioner in the City’s history. Additionally, Andrew had completed one term on the Los Angeles County Library Commission and has since been appointed to the Public Social Services Commission, advising the Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services (DPSS). Andrew was also appointed by Speaker Emeritus Anthony Rendon, Ph.D to serve on the California Board of Naturopathic Medicine.
Andrew earned his B.A. in Political Science from the University of California, Irvine (UCI) and a Masters of Public Policy at the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy. Andrew currently resides in the City of Monterey Park where he has been a lifelong resident. His passion for public service is met by his love for trying new local food and boba spots as he aims to support the local businesses in the area.
